HUGE: 70,000 sq. ft. Mega-Store would be as big as a football field. Totally out of scale with downtown Burlingame.
Public Land: The MegaStore would be built on what is now City Parking Lot L (where the Walgreens logo is in this site plan).
"Island Unto Itself": All parking (including the Public Parking Spaces marked with red dots) is effectively walled off from access to downtown Burlingame.
Pedestrian Un-Friendly:
There would be a 300 ft. dead wall of fake store fronts along Primrose from the Howard corner to Fox Plaza Lane truck entrance, as well as along Howard.
The proposed pedestrian walkway to Primrose is pedestrian-hostile due to ugly loading docks, large noisy trucks backing in and out, and noxious diesel fumes.
Parking Deficit: During the peak shopping period on Saturday the Safeway proposal would generate a Parking Deficit of 58 parking spaces. These would have to absorbed in downtown Burlingame -- that has no room for them.
Primrose Truck Traffic: All of the heavy trucks making deliveries to Safeway/Walgreens (30 per day) would be required to travel down narrow Primrose Road in order to make a left turn (blocking all traffic) onto Fox Plaza Lane.
